Hesse: Prime Minister Rhein: Must make our country resilient

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The new Prime Minister of Hesse, Boris Rhein (CDU), also sees his career path as a roller coaster ride. "It was a roller coaster, in fact, but I think that's also good for you," he told Hit Radio FFH on Wednesday. "That's the essence of politics: change, transition, change. You have to be able to do that, you have to want to, and I think it helped me a lot." Before his post as head of government, Rhein was President of the Landtag, Hessian Minister of the Interior and Science and candidate for the office of Frankfurt Mayor, but lost the run-off election.

With regard to crises such as the flood in the Ahr Valley or the war in Ukraine, Rhein said: "We have to make our country resilient to unrest and insecurity from within and from outside." The secure supply of electricity and heat is also important: "I think people are realizing more and more that we now also need energy security. And then we also have to produce the energy," Rhein continued. He can well imagine that there will be much more talk about photovoltaics, i.e. energy generation from the sun.
