Offenbach (dpa / lhe) - July in Hesse was significantly too warm and much too dry. According to a provisional analysis by the German Weather Service (DWD), the average temperature of 19.5 degrees was several degrees above the internationally valid comparative value for Hesse for the years 1961 to 1990 of 16.9 degrees. "In particular, the Rhine-Main area reported almost consistently summer temperatures of 25 degrees," said the DWD on Friday in Offenbach.
The hottest day of the year was July 20 with 37 to 39 degrees, as determined by the DWD. Another hot day was July 25th, which ended with severe thunderstorms, especially in East Hesse.
Rain, on the other hand, was scarce, according to the DWD it was the fourth driest July when records began. With an average of only around 25 liters per square meter, only around a third of the target of 73 liters fell. Field and partly larger forest fires were a result. With 275 hours of sunshine, the month clearly exceeded the target of 204 hours.
Not all measurements from the stations are included in the first evaluation by the DWD. In addition, the data for the last three days of the month are based on forecasts.
