Hesse: Rheingau Music Festival: advancement award to conductor Peltokoski

Oestrich-Winkel (dpa/lhe) - This year the conductor Tarmo Peltokoski from Finland will receive the Lottery Prize of the Rheingau Music Festival, which is endowed with 15,000 euros. The 21-year-old will accept the award at his concert on Saturday (July 23) in the Wiesbaden Kurhaus, the organizer announced on Thursday. "Tarmo Peltokoski is a truly exceptional talent at the beginning of a really great career," the jury explained in its selection.

At the age of 14, Tarmo Peltokoski began his conducting craft with the renowned professor Jorma Panula and continued with famous conductors such as Sakari Oramo, Hannu Lintu and Jukka-Pekka Saraste, according to a statement. In addition to his work as a conductor, Peltokoski is also a celebrated pianist - whether with large orchestras, in chamber music or solo.

The Lotto Promotional Prize goes to a young talent at the festival every year. "The pandemic has put many young musicians in a precarious position who were at the beginning of their careers and had to suffer particularly severe losses," said the organizer. That's why Lotto Hessen and the Rheingau Music Festival are particularly interested in awarding the prize.
