Hesse: right chats with the police: opposition calls for consequences

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The opposition in the Hessian state parliament is demanding fundamental consequences from the police because of right-wing chats that have been uncovered again. For more than two years, misconduct by officials has been revealed time and again, which clearly indicates closeness to right-wing extremist ideas or a right-wing extremist attitude, criticized the SPD interior expert Heike Hofmann on Tuesday in Wiesbaden at a meeting of the interior committee. The state government should no longer describe these incidents as isolated cases.

The interior experts of the FDP and Left faction, Stefan Müller and Torsten Felstehausen, made similar statements. The quality and depth of the allegations affected. Social Democrats and Leftists campaigned for the fastest possible establishment of an independent complaints and investigation office as well as an independent ombudsman and police officer. The AfD interior expert Dirk Gaw said that the results of the investigation should first be awaited.

The latest incidents involve investigations into right-wing chat content by five Frankfurt police officers, including three middle-level executives. One of the officials is suspected of having used license plates of anti-constitutional organizations. In this context, three other officials are accused of thwarting criminal prosecution while in office, and one of them is also accused of violating official secrecy. There is initial suspicion of a violation of official secrecy against another official. Officials at the Frankfurt Presidium have repeatedly caused scandals in recent years, including with right-wing chat groups.
