Sontra/Eschwege (dpa/lhe) - The kangaroo that escaped from a sanctuary in northern Hesse almost three weeks ago is dead. Railway employees found the dead animal on Thursday on a railway line near Sontra (Werra-Meißner district), as the police said on Thursday announced on Friday in Eschwege.
Accordingly, the kangaroo was allegedly run over by a train. "There was no evidence that the animal died under any other circumstances," the police report said.
The male animal had escaped from the enclosure in Sontra together with a female conspecific. However, the female was recaptured a few days later.
