Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - According to the Hessian State Criminal Police Office (LKA), more than 100 "Reich citizens" in Hesse have had their weapons confiscated since 2019 until mid-2022. The figures for the year as a whole are not expected to be available until January, said a spokeswoman for the German Press Agency. "The individual successes are always associated with very complex procedures that we could have accelerated long ago by changing the weapons law," it said. "Currently, more than 40 people in Hesse, who belong to the spectrum of the Reich citizen scene, have a gun license."

At the end of June, 27 people assigned to the "Reich Citizens" extremism group had gun ownership cards for the purchase and possession of "sharp" firearms. In addition, there were 20 extremists assigned to the scene with the "small weapons license", which entitles them to carry alarm, irritant and signal weapons.

At the beginning of December, after a nationwide raid, 25 members of the "Reichsbürger" scene were arrested who are said to have prepared a coup d'etat. The alleged ringleader, Henry XIII. Prince Reuss was arrested in Frankfurt.
