Hesse: State parliament plans to reduce temperatures in the building

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - As a consequence of the impending energy crisis, the Hessian state parliament is planning to lower temperatures during the next heating period. At the request of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden, the state parliament announced that a package of measures to save energy is currently being planned. An energy consultant will also be commissioned to implement the plans.

The Bundestag Council of Elders has already decided to heat its rooms less in winter and cool them less in summer. The offices for MPs, their employees and the Bundestag administration should only be heated to 20 degrees in winter instead of the previous 22 degrees. While the air conditioning systems used to ensure a pleasant 24 to 26 degrees in summer, depending on the outside temperature, it will be 26 to 28 degrees in the future.

In buildings of the Bundestag with decentralized water heating, there should only be cold water in the future. According to the decision, instantaneous water heaters in the offices will be switched off. In buildings with central hot water preparation, however, this should remain in operation for reasons of system hygiene. Savings should also be made on lighting.

The reason for the energy-saving measures is the severe throttling of Russian gas supplies through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline in the wake of the Ukraine war.
