Hesse: Study: Every second Hessian volunteers

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Every second Hessian volunteers in his free time. This is the result of the first results of a study by the state government, as the head of the state chancellery, Axel Wintermeyer (CDU), said on Sunday on International Volunteer Day (Monday). Accordingly, young people in particular work more often than average in honorary posts.

"This commitment is of inestimable value for our society," said Wintermeyer. Hessen is a voluntary state. "People get involved here, they lend a hand and make a significant contribution to cohesion in our society," said the minister.

Precise results from the study commissioned by the Institute for Vocational Training, Labor Market and Social Policy in Offenbach should be available in May next year. According to the state government, the study serves as a basis for decisions on future subsidies.

According to the Ministry of Finance, Hesse is planning around 23.4 million euros in the upcoming double budget for 2023 and more than 23.5 million euros for 2024 to support volunteer work. The "Clap open for volunteering" campaign started on Sunday, where volunteers can win 500 euros a week for their project.
