Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - According to a survey, little was known about the Hessian support program "Löwenstark", which is intended to help schoolchildren cope with the consequences of the corona virus. In an online survey in the past school year, almost 62 percent of the students said they knew nothing about the offer, the state student representative said on Thursday in Wiesbaden. From November 2021 to the end of February 2022, almost 9,500 young people from the upper school and the final classes from level 9 took part in the survey.

The study was carried out by the IMC Institute for Marketing and Controlling in Aachen. According to the information, this is a representative survey.

According to this, a good 76 percent of those surveyed said that they had not taken up any offers in order to catch up on any material they might have missed. 17.7 percent reported private tutoring, around 3.6 percent said they used the "lion's strength" program. These included remedial courses, homework support and online tutoring.

According to the study, around two-thirds of the students complained about distance learning during the corona pandemic. Among other things, there was a fundamental lack of a structured organization, teachers used different platforms, ways and methods to communicate with the students. "In the midst of this pure chaos, it was impossible to keep track," criticized the state student representative.

Apart from the Corona problem, the survey showed that the topic of waste separation receives too little attention in the classroom. More than half of all respondents stated that they had not learned enough at school how to separate waste correctly, as explained by the state student representatives. A large proportion of those surveyed also stated that waste separation was not carried out directly on site at their schools.
