Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The state of Hesse has included ten new municipalities in the village development program. The communities get money to invest in housing, medical care, shopping, culture and social affairs. The funding will go to both the municipalities and private individuals until 2029, as the Ministry of the Environment responsible for rural areas announced on Friday in Wiesbaden. The aim is above all to "strengthen the town centers and make them attractive," explained Minister Priska Hinz (Greens).

Messel (Darmstadt-Dieburg), Ebersburg (Fulda district), Ronshausen and Cornberg (both Hersfeld-Rotenburg district), Wehrheim (Hochtaunus district), Naumburg (Kassel district), Mengerskirchen (Limburg-Weilburg district), Fränkisch-Crumbach (Odenwald district). ), Borken (Schwalm-Ederkreis) and Niddatal (Wetteraukreis).

With the new additions, the program covers 99 communities. Together they receive around 35 million euros in funding per year. According to the ministry, 1000 applications were approved in 2021. More than two-thirds of these were submitted by private individuals and associations.
