Hesse: the head of the city council turns off the microphone for OB Feldmann

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - At the beginning of the Frankfurt city council meeting on the vote-out procedure against Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD), the chairwoman turned off the microphone. At the beginning of the meeting on Thursday afternoon in Frankfurt's Römer, Feldmann had submitted a motion for the agenda. He requested that the issue of free daycare be brought forward.

City council leader Hilime Arslaner (Greens) tried several times unsuccessfully to interrupt him. When Feldmann continued to speak undeterred, she turned off the microphone to the applause of the city councillors.

The meeting started with a delay because Feldmann shook hands for minutes before taking his seat. The city councilors want to vote him out under agenda item five. 71 MPs had submitted a cross-party motion for this. A two-thirds majority is required. The OB himself had recently offered to leave office in January - but that was taking too long for the coalition in Römer. If Feldmann does not accept the deselection within a week, the citizens must decide. In October, Feldmann has to appear in court on allegations of corruption.
