Offenbach (dpa/lhe) - Autumn 2022 was the third warmest in Hesse since nationwide measurements began in 1881. The average temperature this autumn was 10.8 degrees, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Wednesday. The average of the international reference period 1961-1990 for Hesse is only 8.6 degrees.
With 240 liters per square meter, the fall also brought significant rainfall. The average for Hesse at this time of year is only 188 liters. And it was also sunnier: the sun shone for 345 hours, more than the average of 285 hours in Hesse in autumn.
The information provided by the DWD is based on an initial evaluation of the results from its approximately 2000 measuring stations in Germany. In Germany too, autumn 2022 was the third warmest since 1881. For meteorologists, autumn ends at the end of November. According to the calendar, it is autumn until December 21st.
