Hesse: Three sheep killed by wolf

Greifenstein/Bad Hersfeld (dpa/lhe) - In October, three sheep were killed by a wolf in Hesse. At the beginning of the month, two animals were killed near Bad Hersfeld and a few weeks later a sheep in Greifenstein in the Lahn-Dill district, as the Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) announced in Wiesbaden on Friday. So far this year, eight farm animals have been killed by the predator in Hesse, mostly sheep. Significantly more wolf kills from wild animals were recorded in the same period.

A dead calf was also reported in Sinntal in the Main-Kinzig district in October. According to HLNUG, an investigation had shown that the animal had not been viable after birth. It was initially unclear which animal had adopted his carcass. In September, three grazing animals were killed by a wolf in Hesse, namely in the Vogelsberg district, in the Hochtaunus district and in the Fulda district. According to the information, there were five proven wolf territories in Hesse in the 2021/2022 monitoring year. In addition, wolves, which are native to other federal states, roam the country again and again.
