Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - In July 2022, the tourism figures in Hesse almost reached the level before the corona crisis. The accommodation establishments welcomed a good 1.4 million guests last month, around two percent fewer than in July 2019, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Wiesbaden. The number of overnight stays was 3.3 million - this is also only a slight minus of two percent compared to July 2019.
Compared to June 2022, the number of guests rose by more than two-thirds and the number of overnight stays by around half, according to the state office.
When looking at the entire first half of 2022, the corona crisis is still clearly visible. From January to June 2022, the Hessian accommodation establishments received 5.1 million guests - around a third fewer than in the first half of 2019. As the statisticians explained, the number of domestic guests fell by around a quarter during this period, the number of visitors abroad by more than half.
