Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - More than 28 years after the robbery and murder of an optician, a trial before the Frankfurt district court begins today. A now 48-year-old from southern Hesse is accused. In January 1994, the Turkish citizen and an accomplice are said to have attacked the master optician in his shop in downtown Frankfurt, robbed him and killed him with four knife wounds. For decades, the case was one of the unsolved "cold cases" of the Frankfurt criminal police. In early 2021, a fingerprint of the suspect in a drug offense revealed a hit in the police database. The man from Ober-Ramstadt was arrested. His alleged accomplice, on the other hand, is still on the run. So far, the criminal court has scheduled eight days of hearings until mid-July.
