Kirchheim (dpa/lhe) - A truck accident led to traffic jams on the A7 and A4 motorways on Thursday morning. According to initial findings, the 35-year-old driver of the truck had overlooked the fact that the traffic was stuck in the construction site area of the Kirchheim triangle on the A7, as the police said. In order to avoid a rear-end collision, he swerved to the left, drove the truck onto a protective barrier and stopped there with the tractor unit, about one meter in the air. A large amount of fuel ran out of the vehicle onto the street, which the fire brigade had already tied up. The driver was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
The tractor-trailer of a 50-year-old driver was hit and damaged by flying debris in the accident, it said. Due to the cleaning and salvage work, the traffic obstructions are expected to last until noon. Overall, the police estimated the total damage of the accident at around 100,000 euros.
