Hesse: Undine Prize endowed with 50,000 euros

Bad Vilbel/Stuttgart (dpa/lhe) - In Bad Vilbel, the Josef Wund Foundation presented the Undine Award, which is endowed with 50,000 euros, to three prizewinners. The award was presented for the first time on Thursday, as the foundation announced in Stuttgart. The Undine Award is dedicated to initiatives, projects and research related to the topic of water. "With the award and its prize money, we are providing impetus for concrete improvements and sustainable use of our life resource, water," explained Christoph Palm, Managing Director of the Josef Wund Foundation.

20,000 euros go to the researcher couple Andrea Schäfer and Bryce Rhichards. The professors at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology have been researching the treatment of drinking water using solar-powered membrane technology for 20 years. The start-up Awatree from Celle also won 20,000 euros. Since 2021, the young company has been developing digital solutions to protect trees in cities from the increasingly dry summer months.

The educational project "Aqua Agents" from Hamburg was awarded 10,000 euros. Since 2010, around 50,000 primary school children have playfully discovered water as a resource with the so-called "Aqua Agent Case".
