Hesse: University clinic employees want to lay down work again

Gießen (dpa/lhe) - Employees of the privatized University Hospital Gießen and Marburg (UKGM) are going on warning strike for the second time this week. The Verdi union is calling on non-medical employees to stop working this Thursday (from 6 a.m.) at the Giessen hospital site. A demonstration is also planned for the morning (9.30 a.m.) to emphasize the demands for safe working conditions.

Clinic employees had already gone on warning strikes in Marburg on Tuesday and earlier in the summer.

The state of Hesse and the majority owner, Rhön-Klinikum AG, which belongs to the Asklepios Group, are currently struggling over the question of the further development and financial resources of the UKGM. Verdi fears that job security for employees will be lost at the end of the year when an existing agreement expires.
