Hesse: Verdi announces further warning strikes

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - With an expansion of warning strikes, the Verdi union wants to increase the pressure on employers in the wage dispute for federal and local employees. The employees of individual cities in the districts of Hochtaunus, Maintaunus and Wetterau would stop working on Thursday, the union announced on Wednesday in Frankfurt.

Administrations and municipal daycare centers are affected in numerous communities such as in Steinbach, Oberursel, Bad Homburg, Königstein, Kronberg, Usingen, Friedrichsdorf, Hattersheim, Eschborn, Hochheim, Kriftel, Hofheim, Kelkheim, Altenstadt, Bad Nauheim, Bad Vilbel, Büdingen, Butzbach or Friedberg. In addition, there are the district administrations in the Hochtaunus district and in the Main-Taunus district. In some cities, the building yards are also affected.

"We are now increasing the pressure because the employers' offer is absolutely inadequate. Therefore there can only be one answer: more strikes," said the responsible union secretary Ferhat Taysi.

On Friday, bus and train users will have to be prepared for significant restrictions due to the warning strikes. According to the union, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Kassel will also be affected by the nationwide campaign. The action is to take place together with the climate activists from Fridays for Future, who are calling for a global climate strike on Friday.

In the negotiations for the approximately 2.5 million federal and local employees, the Verdi union and the civil servants' association dbb are demanding 10.5 percent more income, but at least 500 euros more per month. No agreement was reached in the second round of negotiations last week. The unions had rejected an offer from the employers as insufficient.
