Hesse: Verdi union for offer in wage dispute at university clinic

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - In the dispute over better working conditions for the nurses at the Frankfurt University Hospital, the Verdi union is demanding that the employer submit a negotiable offer. So far there is none, Verdi said on Tuesday. A round of negotiations is scheduled for Wednesday. In the event that no agreement can be reached, Verdi is preparing for a two-day warning strike, which will last from Thursday morning to Friday evening. Medical care is to be guaranteed with an emergency service agreement. Around 4,000 non-medical employees are to be called to the warning strike.

The union is demanding a collective agreement to relieve employees. Among other things, it is about adhering to self-imposed staffing ratios - such as the number of patients per nurse, better training conditions and compensation for work in overwork situations.

The clinic had already declared on Monday that it would take organizational precautions for a possible warning strike. A spokesman had said that significant restrictions on medical care were to be expected. The Frankfurt University Hospital is one of only two in Hesse. The Gießen-Marburg University Hospital was privatized and belongs to Rhön-Klinikum AG.
