Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Leisure captains are drawn to Hessian rivers and lakes. The water police have recorded a general increase in sports and leisure traffic on the waters in their area of responsibility since 2020 - "not least due to the restrictions during the corona pandemic". This was announced by the Hessian riot police headquarters responsible for the water protection police of the German Press Agency. The increase affects both boats with and without a motor. However, concrete figures on motor boat drivers in Hesse are not available.
Even if the officials estimate that there is more going on on the waters - the number of pleasure craft accidents has not increased significantly: in 2020 the police registered 41 accidents, in 2021 there were 49.
