Hesse: woman caught fleeing police: motorists accused

Fulda (dpa/lhe) - A young driver who is said to have fatally injured a pedestrian while fleeing a police check in Fulda has been charged with suspicion of manslaughter. The then 21-year-old was accused of driving too fast, grossly illegally and recklessly, the public prosecutor said on Wednesday.

The man without a driver's license is said to have lost control of his car on August 19, which then ended up on the sidewalk. There the car hit a 71-year-old pedestrian who was walking with a walker. According to the indictment, the driver then tried to flee. The deadly injuries are said to have been inflicted on the woman who was trapped between the car and a wall.

The driver had previously been noticed by a police patrol. When the officers tried to stop him, he drove away. He is also accused of taking part in a prohibited motor vehicle race. The hearing is to be before the jury chamber of the Fulda district court.
