Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Last year, twice as many patients with a corona infection were treated in Hessian clinics as in the first year of the pandemic. This emerges from the hospital statistics published by the State Statistical Office on Thursday.

According to this, in 2021 a total of 27,900 Hessian patients with a proven Covid 19 infection were treated as inpatients, in 2020 there were only 14,200.

Around two thirds of those affected in 2021 were 60 years or older. On average, Hessian Covid patients were in the hospital for 13.3 days last year, 2.5 days longer than in 2020 (10.8 days).

Measured by the number of inhabitants, the city of Offenbach had the highest proportion of inpatient treatment cases in Hessen with 699 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The Marburg-Biedenkopf district had the lowest value at 270.
