Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Because of the violent death of his baby, a 42-year-old father has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison by the Wiesbaden district court. The man shook his little daughter so violently in December 2020 that she died a short time later in the hospital from the serious injuries, the judge said on Friday. The man was on trial for bodily harm resulting in death, the decision is not yet final.
The four-month-old girl was an unremarkable baby, healthy and well cared for, the judge said. Apparently everything was fine in the family. On the evening of the crime, the father gave his child the bottle in the living room. The mother was preparing food in the kitchen when she suddenly heard the baby's shrill cry. The little one slumped and turned blue, the parents immediately called the emergency number, the judge explained.
However, the court did not follow the father's version that the daughter had suddenly become unconscious while being fed. The judge emphasized that it was clear to the chamber that the girl died as a result of a shaking trauma. The question of why remains unanswered, only the father knows that. The judge told the convict that he could not escape responsibility for the crime. The 42-year-old accepted the verdict in an outwardly composed manner.
