Frankfurt/Bad Vilbel (dpa/lhe) - On the railway line between Frankfurt and neighboring Bad Vilbel, travelers can expect significant disabilities in the coming weeks. Due to further construction work, only one track will be available there from Monday (June 13). From July 9th to September 4th, the route will be completely closed to rail traffic, as Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced on Friday in Frankfurt.
According to the information, there will be longer travel times and diversions via Hanau in regional traffic to central Hesse from next week. Long-distance trains on the Hamburg-Kassel-Frankfurt-Karlsruhe ICE line will be diverted via Hanau and Frankfurt-Süd. The trains of the IC connection Münster-Dortmund-Siegen-Frankfurt only run to and from Friedberg. The S-Bahn line S6 only runs every half hour.
According to Bahn, the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) provides 60 rental bikes that can be used for up to three hours free of charge. RMV and DB recommended travelers to find out about their connections early on.
The S6 gets its own tracks between Frankfurt-West and Bad Vilbel. The major project started in 2017 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023. The railway hopes that the expansion on the route, which is particularly important for commuters, will increase capacity.
