Hessen: exhibition project on coral reefs in the Senckenberg Museum

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - In Frankfurt's Senckenberg Museum, visitors can learn more about the importance of coral reefs for climate change. Under the motto "Hit the reef!" An experimental exhibition project will start this Friday (December 2nd), which will deal with the topics of use, protection and endangerment of coral reefs. The exhibition, which will be on view until the summer of 2024, is divided into different time periods that shed more light on the areas of society, art and science.

In the first phase, impulses that arose in exchange with visitors to the museum would be taken up, said museum director Brigitte Franzen. For example, the extent to which sunscreen poses a risk to coral reefs is discussed. The aim is to communicate scientific results effectively.

A central element of the exhibition is a multifunctional display module by the artist Markus Zimmermann, which takes up current content on the subject of reefs. The module is largely made from recycled materials, explained Zimmermann.

"We don't have a specific target group," said curator Christina Höfling. Everyone will find an exciting aspect. The artistic phase of the project is scheduled to begin in June 2023, and the scientific phase at the end of the year.
