Hessen: extinguishing work in the southern Hessian forest continues

Münster (dpa / lhe) - In Münster in southern Hesse, fire brigades are still fighting a forest fire after several days of extinguishing work. The fire broke out last Saturday near a former ammunition depot. Among other things, two agricultural irrigation systems have now been installed to cool the soil and thus reduce the risk of fire. "With throwing distances of up to 50 meters, the points where firefighting from the air was required in the last few days are also reached," said district fire inspector Heiko Schecker on Friday.

At the same time, more than 110 firefighters are still on duty, and since the start of the extinguishing work there have been more than 4,250 people from various aid organizations. Schecker is currently assuming that the extinguishing work can be completed this Sunday. The police are investigating the cause of the fire, and the fire may have been intentionally set.
