Hessen: Hessen wants to extend the deadline for the investment program

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Since many construction projects are being delayed by the corona pandemic and the Ukraine war, the state of Hesse is seeking an extension of the deadline for the Hessenkasse's municipal investment program. To ensure that no project fails due to the crisis, the statutory deadline for implementation should be extended by two years to the end of 2026, Finance Minister Michael Boddenberg (CDU) announced on Monday in Wiesbaden. A change in the law must be passed in Parliament for this to happen.

In 2018, with the Hessenkasse, the state launched a municipal debt relief program and an accompanying investment program to strengthen the cities, districts and communities in the long term. With the program, which is worth around 700 million euros, roads, kindergartens and sports halls, for example, are being renovated or newly built and loans are being repaid. A total of 1775 projects will benefit from the money.
