Hessen: undeclared work and tax fraud: trial against entrepreneurs

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - A 39-year-old cleaning contractor has been in front of the Frankfurt Regional Court since Wednesday because of allegations of undeclared work and tax evasion. According to the indictment, the managing director is said to have employed 80 Eastern European workers without registration. According to the public prosecutor's office, the resulting damage amounts to more than 250,000 euros.

On the first day of the hearing, 61 of the 80 individual allegations were dropped due to the statute of limitations. Some of the crimes date back to 2011/2012. The defendant only briefly commented on the remaining charges: Although he was managing director during the period in question, he had little to do with the actual management of the company. A colleague was responsible for handling and registering the employees.

The Economic Criminal Court now wants to hear all affected employees on the witness stand in order to be able to clarify the management structures in the company. The process should be completed by the end of June.
