Hessen: Winter in Hessen is sunny, dry and warm

Offenbach (dpa / lhe) - For the Hessians, the winter that was coming to an end was mild and dry. As reported by the German Weather Service in Offenbach on Monday, it was a little too sunny with an average of 145 hours of sunshine. According to the meteorologists, the long-term average of the official comparison period from 1961 to 1990 is 136 hours. The average for the last three months was nine hours higher.

According to the DWD, December, January and February were also a bit dry. Instead of the average of 193 liters per square meter, 173 liters of precipitation per square meter fell in Hesse last winter. It was also warmer: The average temperature for the federal state in the middle of Germany was 3.0 degrees and thus significantly higher than the long-term average of 0.3 degrees.

This puts Hesse in line with the trend in Germany: According to the DWD, the "coldest season" was also too warm nationwide - for the twelfth time in a row, as press spokesman Uwe Kirsche explained. "Climate change is not letting up," he said, according to the statement. There were hardly any lowland winters and the turn of the year even brought positive record temperatures. The DWD balance is based on an initial evaluation of the results of around 2000 measuring stations throughout Germany.
