High mountains. Remollon will host an international restoration project

Remollon's town hall wants to restore an old dry stone wall. The wall is located along the municipal road that leads to the amazing site of the Demoiselles coiffees. This path is being renamed to enhance the town's natural heritage.

Many of these walls were built in the early 20th century to shape the village's landscape. The steep hillsides made it difficult to retain the land from the many vines. Low walls allowed stones to be recycled while holding soil and water. Many of these walls have fallen to pieces as a result of neglect and the decline of viticulture. It is vital to preserve the remaining works. The municipality signed an agreement with Les Villages de jeunes of Veynes with the consent of the architect of Buildings of France. The structure hosts workcamps for young adults from all parts of the globe. It promotes volunteering and fosters intercultural interactions. In 2021, many restoration projects were completed in Laragne, Rosans, and Serres. Most of these projects were done on old walls, cobblestones, and dry stone shelters.

From July 8-22, 12 young people will be on site with two supervisors. They are from Holland, Belgium and Spain. As part of Volontariat pour tous, two French citizens will visit France. Their mission is to make short videos about international work sites.

It is expected that traditional restoration techniques will be used to rebuild parts of the wall. However, the goal of the meeting and discussion with local residents who are interested in the project will also be achieved. Residents will have the opportunity to help at the construction site, learn construction techniques, and participate in the municipal project.

The first meeting will provide an opportunity for the village to start a dynamic restoration of its built heritage and allow residents and visitors to rediscover or discover the historical richness of this area.

Events will be organized by the municipal team to get young volunteers involved in village life. During their time off, they can use the Les 3 Lacs leisure centre while staying at Rochebrune's Les Ecolodges campsite.
