Horizeo project at Saucats (33): Manufacturers want to continue

The four-month-long public debates that erupted around the Horizeo project, in South-Gironde in Saucats, have not left the contractors disconcerted. Engie, Neoen, Engie and their partners RTE, the electricity network manager, and the municipality in Saucats all want this photovoltaic megapark project to be realized on forestry plots far from the town.

Bruno Hernandez, Engie Project Director, and Mathieu La Grelle, Business Development Director shared their decisions at a Bordeaux press conference on May 31.

The project developed however. The main goal of the project is still its main block of 1,000 hectares of solar panel arrays with a power of 1Gigawatt. It is not possible to study the data center that was attached to it. The electrolyzer that was supposed to produce hydrogen is in question. The local consumption of hydrogen produced will determine its realization. There are many more steps to go before the first pickaxe is ready, which is planned for 2024/ 2025. It will need to be subject to a public inquiry as well as the approval of the State.
