Today, Monday March 20, the Catholic Church honors San Damiano.
Saint Martin of Dumio, Saint Martin of Braga or Saint Martin of Pannonia (Hungary), because he was born there, and of Braga (Portugal) because it was where he died, are the same saint.
He was a bishop, theologian and ecclesiastical writer who was known as the apostle of the Suevi.
At an early age he entered the clergy and soon set out for Palestine "with the eagerness to know, tread, kiss, and touch the land of Christ."
Later, he served as a missionary in the kingdom of the Suevos. In addition, he achieved the conversion of King Charrarico to Christianity.
His requests to Saint Martin of Tours to cure his son of leprosy turned out to be a miracle and he kept his promise to join the Christian faith.
Near Bracara Augusta, what is now Braga, Saint Martin founded the monastery of Dumio next to a church that the converted king ordered to build.
The Catholic saints are the group of people recognized by the Church as saints or blessed on a specific date. The Roman Martyrology is the document that names and distributes in the calendar the almost 7,000 saints and blessed recognized by the Church.
The saints and saints are prominent men and women in the various religious traditions for their special relationships with the divinities or for a particular ethical elevation. While the consideration of blessed constitutes the third step on the path to canonization.
