Humberstone: A man who fell from a cliff confesses to killing his wife

After his wife's death, a man was found with severe injuries on the side of a cliff. He pleaded guilty for her manslaughter.

Kaushik Solanki (55), admitted to the charges on grounds of diminished responsibility because of a mental illness.

Manisha Solanki was his wife and was found dead in a Humberstone house on 15 April 2021.

On Friday, he pleaded guilty to Leicester Crown Court and was sentenced on the 25th of July.

After receiving a phone call from Mrs Solanki's family last April, Leicestershire Police became concerned about the welfare of Mrs Solanki.

Shortly after, Norfolk Constabulary called to inform Solanki that he had been seriously injured in Hunstanton and was suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The police arrived at the address on Tennis Court Drive in Humberstone to force entry. Mrs Solanki's body was then found.

Officers from Cambridgeshire, where Kaushik, 55 years old, was taken to get treatment, arrested him under suspicion of murder.

He was granted bail and he continued to receive medical treatment. After his release, he was arrested for the murder of Mrs Solanki (49).

Det Insp. Jenni Heggs (East Midlands Special Operations Unit) senior investigating officer, stated that her thoughts were with the Solankis family and friends at this difficult time.

"During our investigation it was discovered that Kaushik Solanki suffered from an abnormality in mental functioning, which led him to take his wife's lives.

"While I know that Manisha will not be able to come back, I do hope today's outcome will give them some closure and help them move on with their lives.
