In March, Sandra Bullock announced that she would be leaving Hollywood to focus on her family. In an interview, the mother of two now explains her reasons further: She no longer wants to validate herself through her work.
After she recently shot the two movies "The Lost City" and "Bullet Train" alongside Brad Pitt and Daniel Radcliffe, Sandra Bullock would like to withdraw from the limelight in the future and take a break from Hollywood as an actress and producer. The 57-year-old announced this in March.
She wanted to be in the place "that makes me happiest," Bullock told Entertainment Tonight at the time, and that was at home with her two children, Louis, 12, and Laila, two years younger. "I take my job very seriously when I'm at work," but she prefers to be "with my babies and family 24/7" for a while.
In an interview with "The Hollywood Reporter", the mother now continues to explain her reasons. "I don't want to be tied to anyone's schedule other than my own," says the 'Speed' actress. "I'm so burned out. I'm so tired and I'm so incapable of making healthy, wise decisions and I know it."
She considers herself lucky that she was always able to work a lot, says Bullock. But she adds: "It was like opening a fridge all the time and looking for something that was never in the fridge. I said to myself, 'Stop looking for it here because it doesn't exist here. You have it already - set it down and be okay with not having work to validate yourself.'"
The actress clarifies that she will also be happy to do without the many press appointments for film releases in the future. "I shrink when it comes to the press, when it comes to being in the public eye and when it comes to doing a photoshoot," says Bullock. "I just break down. I'm not good at that."
When asked how long she wants her break to be, Bullock replies, "I don't really know." According to "Variety" she had previously revealed at an event that she only wanted to become active as a producer again when her children were "16 or 17 years old". The actress, who lives in Texas, will not be seen in public for the next five years.
Bullock isn't alone in announcing she's taking a break from Hollywood. "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds and "Spider-Man" actor Tom Holland have also announced that they no longer want to accept film roles for the time being in order to concentrate on their families. "Silver Linings" star Jennifer Lawrence returned just a few months ago for the Netflix film "Don't Look Up" after a nearly three-year hiatus.
