"I'm sorry": The Weeknd breaks off the concert in tears

The voice is the capital of every singer. If she's suddenly gone, that's a medium-heavy drama. Singer The Weeknd must now suffer this. When he suddenly couldn't produce a sensible sound, he canceled a show in front of 70,000 fans with a heavy heart.

The Weeknd ended a concert early in tears. The singer performed in front of more than 70,000 fans at the sold-out SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on Saturday night. But during his third song, the 32-year-old left the stage abruptly, as reported by several US media. A little later, The Weeknd came back and announced that they would not be able to finish the concert.

"I'll make sure you get your money back," he assured fans. "I'll be putting on a show for you guys very soon." The Weeknd continued: "I apologize. I love you so much. You know how much this is killing me, I'm sorry. (...) Thank you so much."

Clips of the short speech are now also circulating on YouTube. The singer's voice sounds latently hoarse. You can also see The Weeknd fighting back tears.

A little later, the singer spoke again on Twitter to explain the reason for the cancellation of the concert. Already during the first song his voice "failed", writes The Weeknd. He was "devastated," he added. "I felt her gone and my heart stopped," he continues. "My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I'll make it up to you with a new date."

It is not yet known whether his voice problems will affect further planned concerts by The Weeknd. He had also performed at the SoFi Stadium the day before - without any problems. According to Entertainment Tonight, several of his celebrity friends were in the audience, including models Kendall Jenner, Camila Monroe and Lily-Rose Depp, as well as Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. The Weeknd is working with Depp and Levinson on the HBO series The Idol. The singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, and the daughter of Hollywood star Johnny Depp star in the drama.
