Immortalized on the "Walk of Fame": Ray Liotta receives a posthumous Hollywood star

A year ago, Hollywood star Ray Liotta traveled to the Dominican Republic for filming. However, he never returns from there. The 67-year-old suddenly died in his sleep. His work is now being honored on the "Walk of Fame".

"Goodfellas" star Ray Liotta is to be honored on Hollywood's "Walk of Fame" nine months after his sudden death. The 2,749th star plaque on the famous sidewalk will be unveiled on February 24, the awards presenters said.

The character actor died in his sleep on May 26 last year at the age of 67. At the time, he was in the Dominican Republic for filming. Actor Taron Egerton and director and actress Elizabeth Banks have been invited as guest speakers.

Liotta made his TV debut in 1978 with the series "Another World". He made a name for himself a few years later with the film "Dangerous Girlfriend" by Jonathan Demme and with the role of Shoeless Joe Jackson in "Field of Dreams" alongside Kevin Costner. He is best known for starring in Martin Scorsese's mafia epic Goodfellas (1990). Liotta shot the crime thriller "Killing Them Softly" with Brad Pitt and the drama "The Place Beyond the Pines" with Ryan Gosling. Liotta was in front of the camera with "Kingsman" star Taron Egerton shortly before his death for the thriller series "In with the Devil" (originally: "Black Bird").

Ray Liotta was considered a gritty character actor, but he could also be funny. In 2001 he played the car smuggler Dean in "Heartbreakers" alongside Sigourney Weaver and Gene Hackman, in 2007 he played the biker boss Jack in "Wild Hogs" with John Travolta and Tim Allen - and at the same time parodied his own villain roles.

In one of his most recent roles, Liotta appeared in front of the camera for director Banks in the thriller comedy "Cocaine Bear". The film, about a black bear who used a large amount of cocaine based on a true story in the 1980s, is set to hit US theaters in late February.

Liotta's only child, daughter Karsen, is from his 2004 divorce to actress Michelle Grace. She is due to unveil her father's star next week.
