Texas A&M announced Wednesday that Ira Valentine, a former Houston Oilers runningback, died from a heart attack.

Valentine was a four year letterwinner under Jackie Sherrill. He played on the 1985 and 1986 SWC champion teams. In College Station, he had 101 touches and 486 yards of receiving. He also scored six touchdowns.

Valentine was a 12th round selection by the Oilers in 1987.

He was a rookie in the NFL and saw action in seven games in his first season. Valentine had seven touches for 20 yards, and one punt return of 13 yards.

His memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16th at Texas & Louisiana Baptist Association, Marshall, Texas.
