John Farnham in hospital: "You're The Voice" singer has cancer

In Australia, John Farnham has been a big star for many years. In Germany, on the other hand, it is more remembered as a one-hit wonder. In 1987, his song "You're The Voice" also took first place in the German charts. Now the 73-year-old reveals cancer.

Australian singer John Farnham is in hospital after being diagnosed with cancer. This was announced by the family of the "You're The Voice" interpreter in a statement that is available to "The Sydney Morning Herald", among others. It states that the 73-year-old must undergo an operation. The type of cancer was not disclosed.

"A diagnosis of cancer is something that so many people face every day," Farnham is quoted as saying in the statement, "and countless people have walked the path before me." He knows that he is in professional hands and is therefore very grateful.

Farnham had to end his tour around three years ago after catching a serious kidney infection. The disease appeared after an operation. At that time, the singer spoke to "The Daily Telegraph" of a "wake-up call to take more care of yourself". It is not known why Farnham underwent surgery at the time. But he felt "very uncomfortable" after the procedure and was dehydrated, it said.

Born in England, John Farnham came to Australia with his parents at the age of ten and became one of the biggest music legends in the country. After first steps in the 60s and 70s on TV, he later pursued a pure singing career.

He appeared alongside the late Olivia Newton-John at the opening of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. In Germany he is best known for the international 80s hit "You're The Voice", which also reached number one in the German single charts.
