Justice The countdown begins: judges and prosecutors inform the CGPJ and the General Prosecutor's Office that they will go on indefinite strike as of May 16

The fifth judges' strike in our country, far from being a bluff, could become a very close reality. The representatives of the Professional Association of the Magistracy (APM), the Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association (AJFV), the Independent Judicial Forum (FJI), the Association of Prosecutors and the Independent Professional Association of Prosecutors (APIF) have sent this Friday to the Council General of the Judiciary and the State Attorney General's Office the call for an indefinite strike starting next May 16.

In the text, to which EL MUNDO has had access, the conveners reiterate "the need for a reasonable remuneration update and adaptation" due to "the loss of purchasing power" since the previous economic crisis of 2009.

On the other hand, both judges and prosecutors stress that an "essential update and reasonable remuneration adequacy" has been "postponed for no reason and inexplicable" for fifteen years, while litigation, and its workloads, have only been increasing.

"We cannot forget that for years we have been witnessing a notorious increase in litigation arising, among other factors, from a cascade of legislative reforms that do nothing but exponentially increase the functions and by extension, the workloads of judges and prosecutors, which which in turn significantly affects the occupational health of judges and prosecutors," they add.

In the same way, the conveners ensure that "in order to guarantee that the fundamental right to effective judicial protection is a reality and that the public service of Justice is provided to citizens with due speed and transparency, it is essential to create courts and the call for oppositions for access to the bodies of the Judicial and Prosecutor Career".

This letter sent today to the governing body of judges and the Attorney General's Office is an administrative procedure that must be completed at least 10 calendar days before the indefinite strike begins.

All the convening associations await the meeting that will take place on May 3 with the Ministries of Justice and Finance -the so-called Remuneration Table- as the last possible trick to avoid going on strike in judicial activity from next May .
