"Kaufbeuren and the beer tent factor" - The current corona numbers explained for you

74,645 corona cases were reported to the RKI yesterday.

In the previous week comparison, there is again a strong minus of 28 percent.

This is now the eleventh consecutive business day of a week-on-week decline.

The 7-day incidence continues to fall, from 478 to 451.

It falls in 14 of the 16 federal states, the two exceptions being Berlin and Hamburg.

With the recent declines, the last two federal states – Hesse and Saarland – are again below 600.

Of the 412 urban and rural districts in Germany, only one has an incidence of more than 1000: Kaufbeuren.

The city in the Allgäu is today at 1193 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 7 days.

The high value is associated locally with the "Tänzelfest", which took place from July 14th to 25th.

The open-air events were not critical, says Mayor Stefan Bosse (CSU).

But even in the beer tent "there was a lot of celebration - despite all the warnings".

According to the city, there are now 13 Covid cases “on the normal or isolation ward in the clinic. All are vaccinated, when is not known.”

And: “Three patients are currently being treated in the intensive care unit. Two need ventilation. All three are not vaccinated.”

192 corona deaths were reported to the RKI yesterday, 35 more than a week ago.

In total, we are at 573 deceased in the current week.

Every day we hear the new Corona case numbers. But what do they mean, where are we in the pandemic and what is the trend? Olaf Gersemann explains and evaluates the current figures briefly and concisely - every morning anew.
