Less than two years have passed since Christina Applegate made her multiple sclerosis disease public. Since then, her health has steadily deteriorated. Now the 51-year-old is appearing at the SAG Awards in Los Angeles – perhaps for the last time.
Christina Applegate herself has declared that it could be her last appearance on the red carpet: Now the actress showed up at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) in Los Angeles. The 51-year-old, who made her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis (MS) public in August 2021, attended the awards ceremony with her daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble.
Upon arriving at Fairmont Century Plaza, Applegate showed up with a black cane that had "FU MS" written on it - short for "Fuck you MS". The Emmy winner chose a black, long velvet dress for the performance. She wore her blonde hair in soft waves, just like her daughter. Sadie also presented a black hat and a dark outfit consisting of a long blazer, trousers and platform lace-up boots.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times in early February, Applegate said of the Screen Actors Guild Awards: "It's probably my last awards show as an actress, so it's a big deal." She added, "Right now I can't imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on set."
Applegate was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Jen Harding in the Netflix comedy Dead to Me. In the end, Jean Smart won the prize for "Hacks".
Applegate already has her next career step in mind besides acting: "Doing a whole lot of voiceovers to earn some money so that my daughter can be fed and we can have a home," she told the "Los Angeles Times".
Christina Applegate, who rose to fame as Kelly Bundy on the 1980s sitcom Awfully Nice Family, had made her first awards ceremony appearance since her MS diagnosis in mid-January. The actress didn't walk the red carpet at the Critics' Choice Awards. But she posed for photographers backstage. Here, too, she was accompanied by her daughter Sadie.
In a conversation with the "New York Times" in November 2022, the actress commented on her illness. "I will never accept that," she said at the time. "I'm pissed." After receiving the diagnosis, filming of the third and final season of Dead to Me, in which Applegate co-stars, took a five-month hiatus from filming.
