"Love letters to the muse": This is what the new Pirelli calendar shows

A new photographer, a new motto, new models. The recordings for the Pirelli calendar 2023 are in the can. Among others, Cara Delevingne, Emily Ratajkowski and Bella Hadid will be seen. She staged Emma Summerton.

Photographer Emma Summerton photographed world famous models for the 2023 Pirelli calendar entitled "Love Letters to the Muse". According to a statement from the tire manufacturer, the recordings were made in New York and London. It is a tribute to all the women who have inspired the photographer throughout her career. Among them are actresses, musicians, activists and painters. "A lot of their ideas come from these women, both real and imaginary," it said.

Photographed: Adowa Aboah, Adut Akech, He Cong, Cara Delevingne, Ashley Graham and Bella Hadid. Also in front of the camera were Karlie Kloss, Precious Lee, Lila Moss, Sasha Pivovarova, Emily Ratajkowski, Guinevere van Seenus, Lauren Wasser and Kaya Wilkins. The presentation of the 49th edition of the famous calendar is scheduled for November 2022.

What does the photographer say about her work? "I want to encourage the viewer to open their mind and dream with me," Summerton is quoted as saying. It was a long-cherished wish of hers to photograph for the Pirelli calendar. "It was incredible when it came about," she revealed. "It was like some kind of magic spell had finally worked." Summerton is only the fifth woman to have photographed for the calendar.

The Pirelli calendar has been published since 1964 and is considered a collector's item. Because of the corona pandemic, the issue was waived in 2020. Year after year, Pirelli engages prominent personalities as photographers: Helmut Newton (1920-2004), Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019) and Peter Lindbergh (1944-2019) have already stood behind the camera. Most recently, singer Bryan Adams took on the calendar.

Erotic nudes dominated the Pirelli calendar for many years. Only in the last few years have the bare facts no longer been in the foreground. In the meantime, the people shown should be recognized for their achievements. And not all of them are women - Bryan Adams, for example, also photographed rock icon Iggy Pop for the calendar.
