Man arrested after woman shot in neck, Orlando police say

Neighbors told Orlando police they heard a crash, as if furniture had fallen, followed by gunshots and then screaming shortly after noon Sunday in apartment at the Summit at MetroWest complex.

They called 911 and ran outside to see a man, later identified as Khalil Lang, 24, leaving the apartment while talking on a cellphone, an arrest report states.

Orlando police arrived moments later to find Lang, who told them he had shot his girlfriend in self-defense, according to the report.

A bloody woman opened the front door and collapsed as officers watched, they wrote.

Police said Lang told them he was playing video games when his girlfriend started arguing with him, trying to kick him out of the apartment.

He said she poked him in the eye, accused him of cheating on her and threatened him with a knife, the report states.

The girlfriend, whose name wasn’t released, gave officers a different story.

She said they got into an argument about a PlayStation and Lang got “upset and began hitting her,” according to the report.

She said he pulled a gun and opened fire, the report states.

Police said the woman was shot in the neck, left shoulder and finger. A bullet also grazed the side of her head. She was in stable condition Sunday at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Investigators said evidence at the scene didn’t match Lang’s account of what happened. They didn’t find a knife in the apartment, but the did find a Taurus .38 Special revolver, according to the report.

Lang was arrested on an attempted murder charge and was being held Monday in the Orange County Jail without bail.
