'Mean and Disgusting': Selena Gomez defends Hailey Bieber

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were once the dream couple for many. But the relationship breaks up and he finds a new love with his now wife Hailey. The fact that this still tempts many fans to make hate comments now also calls Gomez onto the scene.

Apparently Selena Gomez couldn't remain silent any longer. The 30-year-old has responded to an interview in which Hailey Bieber opened up about the hate she's felt since dating Justin Bieber shortly after Gomez.

The singer and actress went live on Tiktok. She's heard people make "mean and disgusting" comments about Hailey Bieber since the conversation broke on the Call Her Daddy podcast. "It's not fair, nobody should ever be spoken to in the way I've heard," Gomez criticizes the haters and urges them to be friendly in dealing with each other.

Many of those who circulate hate comments support their "Rare" beauty line, and Gomez also does a little bit of self-advertising. At the same time, however, they would ignore what it stands for. Gomez is alluding to the fact that one percent of the proceeds go to the "Rare Impact Fund", which aims to promote people's mental health.

"If you support 'Rare' I can't thank you enough, but know that you also represent what it means. And that is: words matter, really matter," says Gomez. She ends the video with an appeal: "I hope you understand that this is much bigger than anything else."

Hailey and Justin Bieber began dating in June 2018, just weeks after Selena Gomez and Bieber split again. They announced their engagement after just a month and got married in September.

In a podcast on Wednesday, Hailey Bieber spoke for the first time about how the relationship came about and how much she suffers from the hate she is confronted with because of it. Even today, she is afraid of commenting on it and "raising dust again." It was also hurtful for Justin Bieber. They both asked themselves, "If we can move forward (with our lives), why can't you?"
