Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: 18 emergency generators for the Mönchgut-Granitz office on the island of Rügen

Sellin (dpa / mv) - The Mönchgut-Granitz office on the island of Rügen has purchased 18 emergency generators to ensure the energy supply even in a crisis. The first 15 devices were handed over on Thursday in the Baltic Sea resort of Sellin. "With these devices, we secure the critical infrastructure," said senior administrative officer and military leader Arne Fründt. He put the total cost of the purchase at 450,000 euros.

The units have been specially converted to supply buildings with electricity. They have an output of 7 to 120 kilowatts. An output of 1.5 kilowatts is sufficient to supply a small family home. As possible areas of application, Fründt named the administration, where a crisis team would start work if necessary, the fire brigade guards and warming halls for the citizens.

Even if the risk of a blackout as a result of the energy crisis or possible hacker attacks is currently assessed as low, it is important "to be prepared for such scenarios," said the Mönchgut-Granitz office.
