Rostock (dpa/mv) - The H-Boat World Championship at Warnemünde Week ended on Friday without a final race. The last race in the afternoon had to be canceled because the wind was too strong. "The last opportunity for the H-boats to start would have been 2 p.m.. That's why we then decided that the H-boats would no longer sail today," said Peter Ramcke, sports director of the Warnemünder Woche. World Champion is the Danish favorite Claus Høj Jensen after eight races on three days. It is his ninth title in this class.
His compatriot Anders Bertelsen gave the defending champion courageous races and finished second. The two Danes were clearly superior to the 45 competitors. The best German was Thomas Kausen (Berlin Yacht Club) in third place. "We had worthy conditions for a world championship. As third, I'm very happy with the result," said the four-time German champion.
Torsten Schranck, Chairman of the Warnemünde Sailing Club, drew a conclusion two days before the end of the event: "After two dry years, almost 1000 active people from 21 nations are taking part in this year's Warnemünde Week. I am very satisfied with the event. That's how it can be move on."
