Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Integration officer visits Schwerin bag manufacturer

Diversity is important, everyone says. A company in Schwerin employs refugees and people with disabilities. Now she got a visit from Berlin.

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In the Schwerin bag manufacturer Red Rebane, five employees produce stylish bicycle bags and belt bags - on Monday the company received a visit from the federal government's integration officer, Reem Alabali-Radovan (SPD). The background is that Red Rebane employs severely disabled people and refugees. The reason for the company visit was the 10th German Diversity Day on May 31st.

The company was also praised by the managing director of the Schwerin employment agency, Guntram Sydow. "Diversity is also an answer to the labor shortage," he said.

There are around 6,300 vacancies in the West Mecklenburg region alone. At the same time, more than 1,100 people with severe disabilities in the region have no job. It is good to see when companies give these people a chance. Every year, companies in West Mecklenburg pay a compensatory levy for around 800 compulsory jobs for disabled people because they cannot fill the positions adequately.
