Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Modification of support programs for weaker students

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The state government wants to realign its support programs for students with learning difficulties. The previous educational program "9", which is aimed at young people who have not successfully completed the 9th grade, will be discontinued at the end of the next school year, the Ministry of Education announced on Sunday in Schwerin. It was hardly used.

Instead, from the 2023/24 school year, the “Productive Learning” and “Dual Vocational Qualifications” offerings are to be expanded. According to the state government, both reach for the 7th grade and try to help the pupils to successfully complete school by better dovetailing with professional practice.

In addition, the possibility of a voluntary tenth school year should also be possible for young people at regional schools and comprehensive schools. So far, this has usually only been open to pupils at special needs schools with a focus on learning. "Thus, many more young people have the chance to obtain a recognized school-leaving certificate," said Education Minister Simone Oldenburg (left).
