Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Müritzeum shows internationally awarded nature photographs

Waren (dpa/mv) - With around 80 nature photos, the most visited museum in the Mecklenburg Lake District - the Müritzeum - wants to attract guests over the turn of the year. As a spokeswoman for the nature information center in Waren said on Friday, the winning photo works of the international nature photo competition "Glanzlichter" from 2021 will be shown until the end of March 2023. This also includes the winning picture of the Spaniard Fran Rubia. It's called "The Observer" and shows how lonely a red fox sits in a snowy landscape. The opening of the "Glanzlichterschau" is planned for this Saturday.

880 photographers from around the world took part in the competition with 17,000 images. Of these, 87 winning pictures were chosen in various categories and one overall winner, the picture of the Spaniard. The focus was on nature on the photographer's doorstep. The Federal Environment Ministry is the patron of the competition. The "highlights" photos fascinated with their color intensity, their carefully chosen motifs and some with their very strong composition, it said.

The Müritzeum consists of an unusual rotunda with an overview of the fauna and flora of the Mecklenburg Lake District, a freshwater aquarium landscape, the garden around the Herrensee and the old museum with special exhibition rooms. Before the corona pandemic, the museum had around 150,000 visitors a year.
